What cha been up to?

Wow time flies when you're having fun!  It's already May.  In the past few months I've discovered Pinterest (LOVE IT!) for providing intense visual stimulation and GREAT IDEAS!  I've discovered button bouquets.  Although I've combined them with the style I used to do wedding flowers in instead of just combining all of the button flowers together I put a layer of babies breath under them which provides the eye some rest time in between looking at all the different flowers.  They are so much fun to make.  I'm working on a tutorial and will post that when I get it complete but for now I'm posting my two bouquets.  The brightly colored one was a Happy Birthday bouquet for my one niece and the other was for my other nieces wedding.  I also made a similar wedding one for a juried Art Show called Venus Envy which was held at Bucktown Center for the Arts in Davenport, IA today.  Hope you enjoy them.

How are those new year resolutions going?  Mine is Live the life of my authentic self.  Should be a great year!  I'm definately looking forward to it. 

Renovation

At the beginning of September I began calling contractors for bids for painting, putting in new countertops and sinks and my kitchen and bath. Yes, the pink sink in the bath was on it's last legs. The plan was to go with basic things.  No big frills but to look updated.  I  had found pretty much everything I wanted from Mendards and the prices were really reasonable so I worked on a budge.  I ended up buying everything from Lowe's just because they had a little classer design but the cost was more.  The quality was pretty comparable to Menards, Lowes just had little tweeks that I really liked.  The labor costs to put them in were crazy but I went with a reputable contractor that I had worked with before.  I was only planning on replacing the stove and dishwasher but ended up getting a good deal on the refrigerator too.  By this time the budget was blown.  Long story short and several little incidentals that weren't in the budget but needed like hiring a plumber to hook up my water to that new refridgerator and things like that I'm finished with phase 1.  Phase 2 will be lighting and the installation of shelving for a new pantry in the kitchen closet.  Phase 3 new flooring & back door.  But the kitchen looks great and I'm so happy I did it.  I'm actually cooking again Yay!  This weekend is reserved for making some artwork for the soffets and wall.  It needs some life in it.
